Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are a professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. They play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA), and their home arena is TD Garden. The team was founded in 1946 as one of the original eight NBA teams and is currently owned by Wyc Grousbeck. The Celtics have a rich history that includes winning 17 championships, which is the most for any NBA franchise.
The team played their home games at Boston Garden for 47 seasons, beginning in November of 1946 and ending in September of 1995. After winning 16 championships throughout that time, they are an NBA franchise record for most championships won by a single franchise. The Celtics had a great rivalry with the Lakers during the 1960s and 1980s. In 2008, led by Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, they returned to supremacy after defeating the Lakers in six games during the NBA Finals. After losing to Miami Heat in 2011 Eastern Conference semifinals, they returned to the NBA Finals again in 2012 and 2013 to win their 17th championship against Miami Heat.
