JOSE ALTUVE

José Carlos Altuve is a Venezuelan professional baseball second baseman for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball.

José Carlos Altuve was born in Maracay, Venezuela, on February 3, 1987. He signed with the Astros as an international free agent in July 2005 and spent the 2005 season with their Gulf Coast Rookie League team and played for the Astros' Dominican Summer League team during the 2006 season. He played for the Astros' rookie league team in 2007 and 2008 before returning to the Gulf Coast team in 2009. In 2009, he also played for the Venezuelan Winter League club Navegantes del Magallanes. The next year, he returned to play for Navegantes and also played for Naranjeros de Hermosillo of the Mexican Pacific League. He had 31 games with four hits from 2011 to 2021, the most among any player in that span in MLB. As part of an era that has seen the Astros win a world championship and three pennants in five seasons, Altuve is widely regarded as one of the greatest Astros in franchise history, and one of the best second basemen in baseball.
